The Pre-Installation Checklist

Installing a heated driveway is a major civil and electrical project that requires careful planning before ground is broken. Here is the checklist WarmWay reviews with every GTA property owner:

1. Electrical Service Headroom

Check your main electrical panel. Does your home have 100-amp, 200-amp, or 400-amp service? Sizing must account for EV chargers, heat pumps, and household appliances.

2. Drainage & Meltwater Flow

Where will melted snow run? Driveways must have a minimum 1.5% to 2% slope directing runoff toward city storm infrastructure or dedicated gravel infiltration basins.

3. Timing & Seasonal Scheduling

Excavation and asphalt/concrete paving in Ontario should be scheduled between May and late October when ground frost is completely absent and asphalt plants are open.

Coordinating with Other Contractors

If you are building a new custom home or undergoing an extensive exterior landscape renovation, early coordination between your landscape architect, paving contractor, and WarmWay's electrical team is crucial. Placing conduit sleeves under foundation walls and retaining walls before concrete pours saves thousands of dollars in later coring and trenching.
